Louvre Museum tickets and tours

How much are Louvre tickets?

An adult ticket on the Louvre's own site costs €32. Citizens and residents of the European Economic Area (the EU plus Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) pay €22. These prices have applied since January 14, 2026.

Who Price
Adults from outside the EEA €32
Adults from the EEA €22
Anyone under 18 Free
EEA citizens and residents under 26 Free
Everyone on the first Friday of the month after 6 pm, except July and August Free
Everyone on July 14 Free

Bring photo ID if you enter free. An audio guide costs €6 extra.

Do you need to book the Louvre in advance?

Yes, book if you can. The museum recommends a time slot for all visitors, including those who enter free, and it sells tickets at the door only when attendance is low.

Official tickets are valid for the date and time you choose. You can't change or refund them, unless the Louvre itself cancels.

Where should you buy Louvre tickets?

The museum's own ticket shop is ticket.louvre.fr, and it has the lowest price. Tickets from other sellers, including the ones on this page, cost more than €32.

A resale ticket makes sense in two cases: the official site has no slot left for your date, or you want an audio tour in the same booking.

Whichever you choose, keep the museum's two warnings in mind:

  • Copycat sites are on the rise, so check that the address is ticket.louvre.fr before you pay.
  • Don't buy tickets that claim to let you jump the queue, and never buy from street vendors.

At the Pyramid, every ticket holder uses the same priority queue, and all bags are checked.

Louvre opening hours

Day Hours
Monday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday 9 am to 6 pm
Wednesday and Friday 9 am to 9 pm
Tuesday Closed

Last entry is one hour before closing, and rooms start to clear 30 minutes before closing. The museum also closes on January 1, May 1 and December 25. Some rooms close during the week for renovation: the list of open rooms shows which.

Staff strikes closed the Louvre on some days in early 2026, so check the official site on the morning of your visit.

When is the best time to visit the Louvre?

The museum doesn't name its quietest hours. The usual advice is to come at opening time, or on a Wednesday or Friday evening, when it stays open until 9 pm. Whenever you go, the Sully and Richelieu wings are much quieter than Denon.

Which Louvre entrance should you use?

The Pyramid is the main entrance. Visitors with a ticket or a Paris Museum Pass take the green priority queue, and visitors without a ticket take the orange one.

Ticket holders can also enter at the Carrousel entrance, 99 rue de Rivoli, or the Porte des Lions on Quai François Mitterrand. The Porte des Lions closes at 6 pm, with last entry at 5 pm. The museum says these two may be available at peak times, so don't plan around them. Its map and directions page shows all the entrances and has the museum map.

How long do you need at the Louvre?

Plan for three hours or more, and choose what to see. The museum itself says it's impossible to see everything in one day: it has over 400 rooms and 35,000 artworks.

With an hour or two, it suggests the Denon wing, home of the most famous works. With a full day, add the Sully and Richelieu wings, which are much quieter.

Your ticket is valid all day, but any exit is final: once you leave, you can't come back in.

Where is the Mona Lisa?

In Room 711, the Salle des États, in the Denon wing on Level 1. The room is open daily, but your time in front of the painting may be limited when it's busy.

What can you bring into the Louvre?

  • Bags: up to 55 x 35 x 20 cm. Suitcases and larger bags aren't allowed.
  • Lockers: free and self-service, under the Pyramid. Collect your things the same day.
  • Photos: fine for personal use in the permanent collections. Flash and selfie sticks aren't allowed.
  • Food and drink: no eating or drinking in the exhibition rooms.
  • Clothes: the museum's rules have no dress code.

How to get to the Louvre

The nearest metro stop is Palais-Royal / Musée du Louvre on lines 1 and 7. Pyramides on line 14 is also close. Buses 21, 27, 39, 67, 68, 69, 72, 74, 85 and 95 serve the museum, and the Batobus river shuttle has a Louvre stop on Quai François-Mitterrand. By car, the underground car park at 1 Avenue du Général Lemonnier leads to the Carrousel entrance.

Prices, hours and rules were checked against louvre.fr on November 6, 2026.
